Getting Ready for Work (GRoW) is a programme devised by Share to teach students about the various aspects of searching for and securing employment. It aims to raise the aspirations of students to help them realise the abilities they have and those that will be valuable to employers. As part of the programme, students are encouraged to experience the working environment with the long-term goal of securing employment.
How does it work?
The GRoW programme is run by an independent course director over a 12-week period for one day a week. During this time, students learn about a range of employment-related issues, including:
How to develop the skills and interests they have and translate those in terms of what employers need
How to search for jobs, work experience and voluntary positions
How to write a CV
How to fill in an application form
How to dress for a job interview
What to expect at an interview (including taking part in mock interviews)
Class sizes are limited to 10, with each student nurtured to develop at his/her own pace. Students are only asked to take on more challenging situations when they feel ready and able to do so. As with all the courses at Share, the service is tailored to the individual student's needs.
