7 hours per week. Monday to Thursday: 12.30pm – 2pm, Friday 12.30pm – 1.30pm. This is initially a fixed term role for 6 months.

Share offers a range of training, education, employment and personal development opportunities to disabled people (our students) in order that they may progress towards their personal and career goals and aspirations. We have a dynamic and forward looking strategy and are planning to modernise our training programmes, reach more young people, develop robust pathways into independent living and employment for people with learning disabilities, improve health outcomes for disabled people, and roll out our programmes into other areas.

We are looking for someone to lead on improving our student's lunch break. At the moment most of our students take eat their lunch in our canteen and often find themselves twiddling their thumbs after they've finished eating. This role will be responsible for overseeing lunch time at Share HQ, with the support of other staff, to ensure that students have some fun activities they can take part in, after they've finished eating. You'll need to be creative, fun, enthusiastic and motivating. You'll be responsible for planning the week's activities, advertising them to students and implementing them throughout the week.

Job Description:

  • Support and supervise students during their lunch break at Share, by overseeing the overall management of the dining area, promoting an orderly and pleasant environment
  • Plan, using ideas from students, a schedule of 30 – 45 minute activities that students can get involved in, after they have finished their lunch. These activities can make use of our Immersive Learning Space, Wii console and other resources, or can take place outside of Share.
  • Produce an easy read poster to advertise these activities to students, which can be displayed on the student noticeboard.
  • Encourage students who have finished their lunch to get involved in activities, and move away from the dining area.
  • Manage occasional situations of challenging behaviour between students.
  • Encourage students to go back to lessons at the end of their lunch break.
  • Support with operating the till and taking payments (desirable)

Essential skills

  • Able to relate well to people in an open, calm and friendly way
  • Good communication skills, including the ability to enthuse, inspire, influence and motivate others
  • Ability to maintain a safe, calm and happy atmosphere
  • Flexible and adaptable to different situations
  • Creative and inclusive in approach to planning activities
  • Reliable and punctual
  • An awareness of the support needs of people with disabilities
  • An understanding of, and commitment to equal opportunities
  • The ability to produce easy-read posters to advertise activities
  • It would be an advantage to have a current First Aid certificate
