SHARE students working with Global Charities
SHARE Community has recently teamed up with Global Charities in order to offer students voluntary work. Global is the organisation most commonly known for being the UK's premier radio company, running stations such as Heart, XFM and Classic FM. The charities run by Global include Help a London Child, Have a Heart and Music Makers.
Global Charities regularly needs volunteers to help out with mail-outs, telephone auctions and basic admin support for large appeals. Over the last few months, SHARE Community has been able to help them by sending some students who were looking for volunteering opportunities.
Two SHARE students, Jago Wilson and Mark Barnes went up to Global Charities' offices in Leicester Square to help out with Classic FMs Christmas Appeal for the Music Makers charity. They spent a day answering the phones, taking bids for the live auction. The people at Music Makers said that Mark and Jago both had fantastic can-do attitudes and were really good fun to work with. They've now been asked back to help with Have a Heart's charity appeal, raising funds for Starlight Children's Foundation. They'll be taking calls from Heart FM listeners during the breakfast show's on-air auction.
SHARE Student Stuart Skone has also carried out some voluntary work for Help a London Child - the Capital FM charity. He spent a day counting up money collected at Westfield Shopping Centre and helping to collate materials for an event at Downing Street. Help a London Child staff said Stuart was "polite, flexible and on the whole, fantastic!"
We look forward to more SHARE students having the opportunity to experience working at Global!
