The role

The Marketing and Communications Manager leads on all communications, PR and promotional work, including branding and corporate image, digital marketing, social networking, printed materials, and communications. Central to this role is the development and upkeep of Share’s website and CRM, essential marketing tools.  Equally important is the ability to tell our students’ stories in a way that is compelling and empowering.

Main Responsibilities

  • To promote Share through a diverse range of media to a wide range of external stakeholders, working closely with Share colleagues. This includes ensuring we have a strong presence in social media including Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, and other popular platforms
  • To develop and implement strategies for marketing and communications, liaising with senior colleagues.
  • To maintain and write for Share’s website, and to liaise with developers as needed. To ensure that it functions effectively and accessibly as Share’s primary communications tool
  • To oversee the development and maintenance of Share’s Customer Relations Management database, Civi CRM.
  • To monitor the media and to identify and follow through opportunities for promoting Share.
  • To lead in the production of PR and information materials and to liaise with printers and designers as required, negotiating the best possible prices and ensuring adherence to Share’s branding and to high standards of production. This will include our promotional materials, monthly online newsletter, annual report and any other material as required, in diverse media.
  • To arrange for Share to take part in events and exhibitions, primarily but not exclusively in London, and to represent Share as required, working closely with the Community Development Coordinator.
  • To line-manage the Community Development Coordinator.
  • To advise and inform Share colleagues about house style, branding, and key messages.
  • To develop and maintain administrative systems to manage the marketing function at Share, including monitoring and evaluation of different promotional approaches and maintaining Share’s main database of external contacts
  • To work closely with our Wellbeing Team so as to gather data and create stories about our students’ lives, learning journeys, and achievements.
  • To work as an effective member of a team that is committed to equality of opportunity, mutual support, and working to the highest possible standards.
  • To attend supervisions, staff meetings and other meetings related to Share as required.
  • To undertake any other tasks as may be reasonably required

Person Specification

Educational Qualifications

  • You will be a graduate with a good degree in English, Marketing or similar relevant subject.

Essential experience:

  • Experience of working in a marketing capacity to promote a company or product (commercial or not for profit) to diverse audiences.
  • Experience of developing and implementing communications and marketing strategies that encompass printed, social networking, and web-based media.
  • Experience of producing information materials for the web, as well as for print, of a high standard.
  • Experience of successfully managing a busy and varied workload and the ability to work with minimal supervision.

Essential skills

  • Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to relate positively and in a non-discriminatory way to people at all levels, from a range of backgrounds and communities, with and without disabilities.
  • Excellent written English skills and the proven ability to write for a range of audiences and media, tailoring written style accordingly.
  • Strong editorial skills and experience of exercising editorial judgement
  • Excellent organisational, administrative, and project management skills, and the ability to ensure that projects and tasks are completed and deadlines met.
  • Excellent analytical skills, and the ability to discern the impact of diverse marketing and fundraising approaches.
  • Ability to manage and develop Share’s website, which is built on Drupal.
  • Excellent IT skills and the ability to use the Microsoft Office suite effectively and efficiently to carry out a range of tasks.  This will include word processing, use of e-mail and the internet, preparing presentations and managing data in both Access and Excel. You should also have experience of publishing software such as Canva or Creative Suite.
  • Experience and confidence in using social media, ensuring that Share has a consistently high profile on the main platforms.
  • Good research skills and the ability to digest and interpret complex policy documents, including the ability to identify new opportunities for promotion and to follow through in making ideas work.
  • The ability to develop and implement fundraising and marketing strategies, advising and working closely with senior managers and trustees.
  • The ability to work with a range of suppliers to ensure work is completed both to time and budget, and to a high standard.
  • The proven ability to work as part of a diverse team.

Desirable Experience and Skills

  • Experience of working in the UK voluntary sector within a marketing and/or fundraising function
  • Knowledge of British Standard Proofreading.
