Share students learn about being safe when out in public

On Friday 28 June our students were joined by police from the Wandsworth Safer Transport Team for a session on Being Safe in the Community. The session was organised as part of our My Community and Me project to help students understand how to access local services and stay safe.

Being safe and feeling safe is important. We aim to help our students understand how to exercise choice and control and protect themselves from potential harm when out in the community.

They were able to take part in role plays to embed their understanding and enable them to think about what they would do in certain situations such as what to do if someone is unwell or spotting an unaccompanied bag on the floor of the bus. The Wandsworth Safer Transport Team covered personal safety, explained how the cameras on buses help ensure passenger safety, and helped students understand what happens when you call 999.

Interactive, fun learning is at the heart of what we do, engaging our students to reinforce their learning experience. They loved acting out scenarios and dressing up in the uniforms. A big thanks to the Wandsworth Safer Transport team as sessions like these help equip our students with fundamental skills to be more independent in their day to day lives.
