Hands-on learning helps students engage with technology

Visiting Autotrader

My Community and Me is a class designed to take learning out into the community with an emphasis on practical skills. Recently the focus has been on technology covering a range of skills that students can use to support day to day activities and promote independence.

Students have learnt how to use technology in a variety of ways, including how to check the weather and bus times on a smartphone, scoping out routes, how to share your location from Google maps in case you get lost, and how to make calls and take photos when out with friends.

The technology module has incorporated some exciting trips out including a visit to AutoTrader HQ, local Curry’s PC World stores to try out all the different gadgets and the Design museum.

Hands-on learning like this is an effective way to help students engage and practice what they’ve learnt and it’s also been lots of fun!

The group are moving on to explore how to nurture good friendships with lots more exciting trips planned.
