We’ve got an exciting career opportunity for someone with a genuine love of gardening to be part of our story. You’ll run Share Nurseries, our social enterprise that grows and sells plants to the public, and make sure it provides high-quality work experience for our horticulture students. You’ll maximise the huge potential to grow and develop the nurseries, bringing your passion, creative flair, and commercial sense.

This isn’t your everyday garden centre job. The Share garden is a beautiful hidden urban oasis, home also to our training programmes helping disabled people gain horticulture qualifications and enjoy the therapeutic benefits of gardening.

Share is a registered charity and a centre for training and wellbeing. We provide a range of programmes helping adults with learning disabilities, autism and other support needs live more independently. Our vision is a world where disabled people are fully included in society, living the life they choose, and we need talented people to help us make that happen.

You’ll deliver our ambitions plans for the garden, help us manage our resources and think about how we can engage with the public and local organisations. You’ll bring our teaching and social enterprise activities together in new and interesting ways.

Main responsibilities

  • You’ll work closely with our Head of Training to oversee and guide our educational and therapeutic gardening activities
  • You’ll put Share Nurseries on the map, helping it become the garden centre of choice for our local community
  • You’ll seek out and develop new opportunities to collaborate with other horticultural and environmental organisations, developing projects outside the garden
  • You’ll use your vision to help shape our future and be a part of our exciting plans for growth as we redevelop the site

Your passion for social and therapeutic horticulture is plain to see. You truly understand how gardening has the power to improve physical and mental health, how it can help everyone, regardless of disability, age, or anything else.

Who we’re looking for

  • You have excellent gardening knowledge and have worked in a community garden or similar setting before
  • You have the drive and ambition to take our social enterprise to new heights, bringing fresh perspectives so we can keep providing first-class training to help people move towards employment
  • You’re hands-on, driven to provide excellent customer service and care
  • You’re a brilliant communicator and an inspiring leader, able to motivate others and help them reach their goals
  • Most importantly, you understand people, you love working with diverse groups and you enjoy helping others thrive

Why work for us?

Share is committed to empowering disabled people. You’ll make a difference every day, helping people to live as independently as possible.

Our values drive us forward. They provide the framework for everything we do, including who we hire. We believe everyone has something to offer others, and we build on people's individual talents, interests and abilities. We think happy employees are successful employees.

We won employer of the year at the Wandsworth Business Awards in 2019 and we hold gold Investors in People accreditation. This means we truly understand the value of people: we focus on what people can do, not what holds them back. And we have robust policies in place so that every single person working at Share takes ownership for making our programmes come to life.

We’ve been praised for our thorough induction process and supportive working environment where everyone has a voice and is valued. You’ll be surrounded by people who support you, challenge you, and inspire you.
