The Background

The Garden Project at Harding House and Huguenot Place has now been running since March 2014 and Action on Hearing Loss has been supporting the project since September 2015. The aim of the project is to promote the wellbeing of residents through gardening activities and to develop the gardens on both houses to meet the needs and interests of the residents.

The 2 houses support up to 12 deaf adults and there is small but dedicated band of 5 gardeners who are regular members of the weekly sessions. We would love to find a way to extend the activities of the sessions and include more of the residents even on an occasional basis.

 The role…

  • We are looking for an enthusiastic and creative person with a range of arty or crafty skills who would be able to run occasional workshops for members of the group. The group have already tried a variety of activities including
    • Mosaics – this was very popular and would certainly attract involvement again
    • Flower arranging and wreath making
    • Preserving – jam and chutney making using produce from the garden
  • You'll be able to bring ideas for achievable projects for the garden – maybe bird or bee houses, vertical gardening and help source materials that would be needed for small projects – wood, paint, tiles…

What is available at present…

  • A small budget for materials and equipment
  • An enthusiastic group of residents and their support staff that will BSL interpret
  • A garden space in need of adornment
