Volunteer Trustees

We're looking for volunteer trustees to work with us to create brighter futures for people who need support to live happier, healthier lives.

Share Community is a happy, creative and dynamic charity based in Wandsworth, SW London.  We’ve been making a difference to disabled adults since 1972 through accredited learning, employment, social enterprise, and personal development programmes.  We’re an especially popular choice for people with learning disabilities, many of whom also have autism. We aim to support our members to become more autonomous and independent; to have better health, wellbeing, and resilience; and to move closer to employment. We also run projects that promote social inclusion. We are Autism Accredited through the National Autistic Society, and we’re an Investor in People. We won Employer of the Year for 2019 at the Wandsworth Business Awards. Share has 36 members of staff and a turnover of just over £1m.

Our trustees have a wide range of skills and experience relevant to governing a charity.  They are a skilled, diverse and committed group of volunteers who support the charity.  The Board, which currently has 10 trustee members, use their skills and experience to provide advice, oversight and direction to Share’s Chief Executive and Senior Management Team.  As a Trustee you will be expected to attend one board away day and 6 board meetings a year as well as participating in one relevant board subcommittee. You will also be very welcome to get involved in representing the charity at external events, fundraisers and Share celebrations. Meetings usually take place on Monday evenings.

Following a review of existing trustees, we are particularly interested in hearing from those with active careers who are looking for a new challenge with skills and/or experience in:

  • personal experience of Share’s work OR
  • the legal profession OR
  • property management OR
  • fundraising

Previous board/trustee experience is not necessary, and we welcome applications from all ages and backgrounds. Being a Trustee can be a great way to learn and develop new skills and induction/ training will be given.

For more information about the role of Trustee or to apply please send an email to our Chief Executive, Annie McDowall: anniem@sharecommunity.org.uk. Please include your phone number if you would like her to call you, and please put TRUSTEE in the subject line.
