Digital skills – staying safe online

Safer Internet Day at Share

6th February 2018 was designated Safer Internet Day, which seemed a fitting day to reinforce some key learning with our students on how to stay safe online, such as the importance of keeping usernames and passwords private and what to do when using social media.

This session included group work using word games to gauge students' basic understanding of the topic after which students were shown a video on the subject, and given an opportunity to comment and express their views.

Tutors then used Kahoot!, an online, game-based learning platform, within Share's Immersive Learning Space and on individual iPads to reflect on learning.

Our aim is to teach digital skills for everyday independent living in an accessible way (eg, how to use Google Maps to navigate). Such sessions comprise classroom-based work, followed by a practical workshop to put into practice core learning.
