What happened on our activity week

shopping at Asda

Recently our students enjoyed a fun packed week to mark their completion of our Independent Living Skills unit. Students have been working hard over the last 6 months learning basic cooking techniques and food safety, how to do a weekly household shop and how to understand and navigate household expenses.

Getting out and trying new activities gives students the opportunity to deepen their learning and make links with their local community. Students visited a pottery café and each painted a square tile which we will turn into a decoration at Share Community. A number of students also visited Battersea Arts Centre to enjoy a karaoke session hosted by BirdGang. We even turned one of our learning spaces into a spa complete with nail bar and soothing jazz music. To top it off we had a visit from beautician who taught our students how to do nails and a facial with each student receiving a goodie bag!

We also had a visit from Celia Abbott, the Royal Trinity Hospice charity shop volunteer manager to talk about volunteering. The students had loads of fun dressing up shop mannequins with a bag of donated clothes. The group also used iPads to make a movie on ‘a day in my life at Share Community’.

Well done to all our students for everything they’ve achieved. To find out more about our Independent Living and Wellbeing programmes please contact Gabrielle Antoniou on gabriellea@sharecommunity.org.uk or call 020 7801 9812.
