Earlier this month, we welcomed seven lovely new social buddies to the Go Anywhere, Do Anything team. The day kicked off with an initial training/induction session to show our new recurits the ropes and get them ready for the hours of fun they’ll (hopefully) have volunteering with us.
We also invited 15 of our current social buddies to join the session and delivered some refresher training for everyone. Topics covered included communicating with Makaton, understanding autism and dealing with challenging situations. Pizza takeaway kept us all going until the evening when we welcomed 26 of our current Go Anywhere, Do Anything members to join us for a fun party.
We made great use of our Immersive Learning Space, using a disco theme and a party playlist to get the party started. People tucked into some party food, danced and mingled the night away. To break the ice (although this is Share and the ice was broken almost immediately!), social buddies supported members to complete a ‘people bingo’ game where they had to track down other party guests who matched the statement on their card. We randomly drew the winner and we’re delighted to announce that Michael won...he’ll get a £20 credit to use on future Go Anywhere, Do Anything trips over the summer!
Highlights of the night included Mansoor moonwalking to Michael Jackson, en masse dancing to the Macarena, welcoming six new members to join the project and Jodie’s speech at the end of the night, telling us we should do it all again and finish even later next time!
