Share Community win Employer of the Year at Wandsworth Business Awards

We’re delighted that Share has won Employer of the Year at the annual Wandsworth Business Awards 2019. The awards are organised by the Wandsworth Chamber of Commerce to reward and celebrate the borough’s dynamic and innovative organisations. On Friday 11 October local business people gathered at the Roehampton Club to network with each other before enjoying a three course gala dinner followed by the awards ceremony itself.

As well as winning the ‘Employer of the Year’ award, Share was also highly commended in the category ‘Best Charity or Social Enterprise’. Annie McDowall, our Chief Executive Officer at Share and Jayshree Davé, Vice Chair of Trustees at Share, were there to pick up the award.

Annie said, "I am so proud of our dedicated, passionate staff, volunteers, and trustees, each of whom contribute to making Share the caring and successful organisation it is today. What makes us an organisation that scores 90% plus in staff and volunteer satisfaction surveys?  We recruit people for their values and attitudes. We build on people’s strengths and potential, offering development opportunities to support and deepen their learning. We celebrate success and we learn from what hasn’t gone to plan. We have a strong and clear set of values to which everyone signs up, and which was co-created by the staff team. There’s a high level of trust, vital for an organisation that is all about the wellbeing and safety of vulnerable people. We understand and acknowledge that great ideas and insights come from all parts of the organisation, not just those designated senior. We work with a strong sense of purpose and in ways that enable genius to flourish. Integrity is in our DNA. Staff love that we offer family friendly, flexible working, and an Employee Assistance Programme. Happy people innovate and deliver excellence."

Frank Hogan, a former trustee of Share said, "I would add the strong sense of purpose that powerfully pervades the team. Share's 'clients' are people with profound physical or learning difficulties. The smiles on their faces, the trackability of their achievement, the joy of seeing them grow towards being less dependent. Those were the best things...Where other initiatives give disabled peoples' lives moments, Share gives lives momentum."
