Rachel joined Share a few months ago as part of our Catering Traineeship. And in a relatively short period of time, she has blossomed, gaining confidence all the time and looking to the future when she hopes to secure a job in catering.

Rachel is currently working towards a Level 2 qualification in catering at Share. As well as gaining practical work experience in the Share Kitchen preparing lunch for other students, volunteers and staff two days a week, Rachel studies Maths and English for one day a week, and spends day 4 with Share's job coach, who helps Rachel get ready for work by advising and helping her with her job search.

During her time with us, Rachel has had the opportunity to undertake practical experience at two very different events at Share. First, she was an instrumental member of the team that prepared the food for our Evening in the Garden summer party in June, and after a quick change from chef to waiter, Rachel was on centre stage serving guests. Rachel then helped Share on our stall at the Northcote Road Fete in the beginning of July, serving tasters to the public and engaging customers.

This has helped Rachel to gain valuable catering, customer service, time management and communication skills, while building on her previous work experience, which included working at the Wimbledon Tennis Championships in 2013, when she spent two weeks working in the restaurant kitchen preparing food, and working in the kitchen at her old primary school.

Rachel has taken everything very much in her stride, although she admits she was a little nervous at first as she didn't know what to expect.

Rachel is currently applying for jobs at various pubs, schools and restaurants.

Update: After a period of work experience and volunteering at Share, Rachel joined the staff team at Share as Assistant Chef.
