May and June 2015

Cricket - 10th May

Cricket is often the hot topic of conversation during lunch at Share, so it was about time we organised to go and watch a match. Surrey were playing Leicestershire in the County Championships at the Oval, so Harish, Robert, Ummair, Edmond, Paul and Maitre booked themselves some tickets. They all enjoyed the atmosphere of being at a real game, and there is now talk of trying to secure some tickets to The Ashes...!

Chelsea in Bloom – 23rd May

So we didn’t manage to get tickets to the Chelsea Flower Show, so we opted for the second best thing – Chelsea in Bloom.  Throughout this one weekend in May, the shops in and around Sloane Square decorate their fronts with plants and flowers in the hope of winning a prize. It was great fun looking at and smelling all the beautiful flower displays, exploring the fairy tale forest and hanging out with the giant flamingos. We had a blooming lovely time!

Kew Gardens - 31st May

Here at Share Community we love a beautiful garden – our own community horticulture project in Tooting is an English country oasis in a busy city, which is managed and cared for by Share students. So with this in mind we rallied our budding botanists and spent a leisurely day in the fabulous grounds at Kew Gardens, soaking up idea’s for next years planting and being inspired by the sights, smells and sounds of this rich park garden. This was one of our ‘mega trips’ with 24 Social Buddies, staff and members joining us on the day. All together it was a really enjoyable day out with great company in beautiful surroundings.

London Duck Tour Adventure - 6th June

Lawrence, Danielle, Angela, Peter, Paul and Joe took to the streets of London, then splash-landed into the River Thames. We loved driving off the road into the river, what a thrill. We saw some of the biggest sights in London, and learnt a lot from the enthusiastic tour guide who really knew his stuff. It helped us to discover what other places and sights in London we would like to visit. A really unique experience that we’d love to do again!

London Transport Museum  - 14th June

A much anticipated visit to London’s Transport Museum was enjoyed by Michael, Nigel and Edmond. The museum explores the story of London and its transport system over the last 200 years. It was great looking at all the old buses and steam powered trains. We learnt about how the underground system was born, and how the famous tube map was designed. Edmond said he particularly enjoyed seeing the stage coach, it's wheels and the three horses. It was a great hands on and interactive experience, that we’d highly recommend. After the museum, we enjoyed the music and atmosphere in Covent Garden, and then finished the day with some delicious, but maybe a little bit too spicy, pizza!
