New performing arts initiative launches

We’re so excited to be launching a new performing arts group at Share! Sessions will be guided by our students' own interests and ideas and will take place weekly at the Battersea Arts Centre near our Clapham Junction site.

It’s all about the joy of being silly and having uninhibited fun. Having a good laugh helps us let our guard down, relax and enjoy life.

We're planning to put on our very own performances in the future so watch this space!

Sports day at Share Vauxhall a big hit

Last month, we had a fantastic time at the Share Sports Day held at our Vauxhall site, a fun, inclusive event for all our students and staff. The day was packed with exciting activities like basketball, football, hockey, and tennis.

We wanted to do something in place of our usual garden party, which we weren't able to hold this year due to the ongoing building work around our garden site, and this was a lovely alternative way for everyone to get together, get active and enjoy themselves.

Our creative writing group celebrate the start of autumn

With the support of our volunteer Janice, Share students Gus, Charles, Doddy, Joyce and Harish collaborated to craft an acrostic poem around the word ‘September’. To spark their creativity, the group listened to works from poets and songwriters that weave September into themes of love and loss.

Afterwards, they shared their own thoughts about what September means to them, what they’ll miss about summer, and their personal reflections on love and loss. Here’s what they wrote:

September: an acrostic poem

September is lovely weather and it’s warm,

Evenings are brighter, I listen to the forecast,

People like eating apple pie,

The apples are falling off the trees.

Everyone is cold and chilly,

Miserable rain showers,

Be warm and put on your coat and scarf,

Eat curry and drink tea.

Run through the park – on some days it’s still summer!

Interview with Anna-Marie about volunteering

Anna-Marie is a student in our Steps into Employment class. Through our partnership with Status Employment, Anna-Marie worked with her career advisor, Jahida, and recently started volunteering on reception at our Brixton site.

We caught up with her to see what she got up to on her first day:

Anna-Marie, what is your dream job?
'Office work! Sending emails, answering telephones, and doing worksheets'.

What have you been learning in your Steps class to help you prepare for a job?
'Telephones, typing, photocopying, printing. And I made a CV that has my personality, hobbies, interests, and skills.'

What did you do on your first day?
'I was working on the computer, typing in dates and names. I was helping people sign in and greeting visitors, saying good morning and good evening. I kept the work desk tidy and sent emails.'

What did you learn on your first day?
'Good listening, how to stay organised, how to be nice and keep people happy, and working together with my colleagues.'

What other things are you hoping to learn from volunteering?
'More typing, being on time, and I want to get experience.'

How does volunteering make you feel?
'Happy and nice. I made friends!'

Do you have any tips for someone who wants to start volunteering?
'Work on your skills. Learn how to use different things in the office.'

Thank you Anna-Marie and best of luck with your new role!

Dance sessions with RADiate

Students in our art group have been attending dance sessions with Jasmine from dance project RADiate.

Run by the Royal Academy of Dance, the project has helped students explore self-expression through movement. They've been working on a nature-inspired routine for their final dance piece and are hoping to perform this at the Royal Academy of Dance in December!

We've made a short film to show you what they've been up to.
