Meet Kealan

Volunteer befriender Kealan first met with student Zain over a Zoom call, and they soon started meeting up regularly to go for walks, play sport, and hit the gym. Zain said his three favourite things about Kealan are his voice, that he’s really friendly, and that he can talk to him about anything.

Kealan has also supported Zain to make PowerPoints about some of his favourite topics, which is something Zain really enjoys doing.

It’s good, he seems friendly and a nice person. Sometimes he helps me with things like how to use machines at the gym. Sometimes we go to the park to play sport or go on a walk if it’s nice weather. I feel happy, I like that opportunity
Zain, about his befriender Kealan

One of Zain's goals as a student at Share has been to meet more people and make more friends. This befriending match has helped him to grow confident in building relationships and expressing his feelings. He's confided in Kealan about things he finds tricky and Kealan has been able to provide reassurance and perspective to Zain.

Kealan's support as a volunteer has opened up a range of activities and opportunities to Zain, and helped him to have a richer social life.

I really enjoy hanging out with Zain. He is very forthright about what he wants to do, which makes my job a lot easier. He has so many ideas about what he wants to spend our time doing, such as suggesting doing some creative writing together when I asked him what he wanted to do over the winter as it gets darker.
