New funding expands social opportunities for Share students
Thanks to new funding, including a generous donation from Ambassadeurs Group, our Go Anywhere, Do Anything social inclusion project is set to expand, offering even more students the chance to take part in exciting trips and activities across London and beyond.
The project connects groups of students with trained ‘social buddy’ volunteers, who together head out in the evenings and at weekends to enjoy social activities, explore new places, and try things they might not otherwise have access to.
For many people with a learning disability and autistic people, getting out socially isn’t always easy. Barriers including limited support, accessibility challenges and negative attitudes can mean people are more likely to feel isolated or miss out on social opportunities. Projects like Go Anywhere, Do Anything help change that by creating supportive, welcoming ways for people to spend time with others, try new things and feel part of their community.
Trips out are driven by our students themselves, who play an active role in deciding what they want to do. Whether it’s a meal out, laser tag, a trip to the cinema, live sport, club nights or something else entirely, the focus is on creating enjoyable and meaningful experiences that reflect their interests.
Alongside having fun and building friendships, the programme also helps students develop confidence and independence in everyday life. This includes practising skills such as planning journeys, using public transport, ordering food, and navigating new environments.
Go Anywhere, Do Anything has been running for over ten years and is hugely popular with our students, with demand consistently outstripping available places. This new funding will allow us to increase capacity and ensure more students can benefit from the opportunities it provides, helping them to build skills, confidence, and connections.
