Are you passionate about helping people work towards their employment goals? Do you want to encourage employers to make adjustments so that people with learning disabilities have equal access to work opportunities?

Share is a registered charity and a centre for training and wellbeing. We provide a range of programmes helping adults with learning disabilities, autism, and other support needs become more happy, healthy, and independent. Our vision is a world where disabled people are fully included in society, living the life they choose, and we need talented people to help us make that happen.

We’re looking for someone to create pathways to employment for our students, helping them develop the skills and confidence needed for paid and voluntary work.

Main responsibilities

  • You’ll create an employment strategy that supports our students regardless of where they are on their employment journey.
  • You’ll mentor people to help them overcome barriers and confidently seek and find employment.
  • You’ll plan and deliver our established STEPS Into Employment course once a week and create first-rate teaching material for another facilitator to deliver it for the rest of the week.
  • You’ll build partnerships with prospective employers to identify employment opportunities and help them create environments in which everyone can flourish, regardless of disability.

About you

  • You’ve worked in supported employment before and you have a strong track record of placing people in work or voluntary positions.
  • You’re a skilled communicator and you know how to build rapport and inspire trust and confidence in others.
  • You’re very aware of the adjustments that are needed to help disabled people succeed in the workplace.
  • Most importantly, you share our strong commitment to the inclusion of disabled people in society, and you believe in equality for all.

Why work for us?

Share is committed to empowering disabled people. You’ll make a difference every day, helping people to live as independently as possible.

Our values drive us forward. They provide the framework for everything we do, including who we hire. We believe everyone has something to offer others, and we build on people's individual talents, interests, and abilities. We think happy employees are successful employees.

We won employer of the year at the Wandsworth Business Awards in 2019 and we hold gold Investors in People accreditation. This means we truly understand the value of people: we focus on what people can do, not what holds them back. And we have robust policies in place so that every single person working at Share takes ownership for making our programmes come to life.

We’ve been praised for our thorough induction process and supportive working environment where everyone has a voice and is valued. You’ll be surrounded by people who support you, challenge you, and inspire you.

How to apply

We positively welcome applications from all parts of the community and from people with diverse cultural backgrounds and lived experience.

Please send us your CV and a cover letter addressing the following 3 questions:

1.            What would you say is a barrier for people with learning disabilities and/or autism gaining employment? How would you work to address this within the employment specialist role?

2.            How would you approach a local employer to gain a work placement for a student who has no previous work history? What steps would you take?

3.            Some of our service users find change difficult to manage. How would you support someone like this to transition out of Share into paid employment?

Please also fill in and include the Equal Opportunities form (available at the bottom of this page)

Please send the 3 documents by 09/03/2022 at 4pm to hradmin@sharecommunity.org.uk.
